Bee Pastures

We are working on an online list of wild and crop plants, which will be particularly well suited for bee pastures.

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus)

Period of bloom: June - September

One of the most pollen and nectar rich plants is the cornflower, in the past our grain fields, especially the rye fields, were full of the cornflower’s distinctive blue blossom, and the bees which would frequent these blossoms on a regular basis, produced a very rich and aromatic honey . Unfortunately the cornflower and its beautiful blue blossoms are now rare in our fields.
